Waitrose to sell products at Shell petrol-station forecourts

Some good news for a Tuesday found online this morning:

Oil giant Shell is to begin selling grocery products from retailer Waitrose at its UK forecourts. The trial will begin on 25 November and the offer will run across three forecourts in the West Midlands with the possible outcome of a larger number of Shell service stations taking on the convenience products in 2010.

The Waitrose products on sale includes sandwiches, wraps and snacks, as well as a small selection of grocery items, ranging from bread and pasta to ready meals and toiletries.

‘Today’s announcement builds on plans by Waitrose to accelerate its presence in the convenience sector through new formats and channels,’ said Waitrose managing director Mark Price.

Shell UK operates over 900 sites, whilst Waitrose now operates 221 branches.

Bath Marketing’s comment – Thank heavens for this as the shelves in petrol stations normally consisting of Ginsters pies, nuclear heated coffees & sandwiches that bend in the middle will hopefully become a thing of the past!
